FREE Crochet Newborn Owl Hat Pattern!

Newborn Crochet Owl Hat Pattern






** I ALWAYS start my DC in the same stich as my chain 2.**
Round 1: Magic Ring, Chain 2, DC inside ring, join to 1st DC, chain 2
Round 2:  2 DC in same stitch and in each DC around. Join to chain 2
Round 3: DC in the same stich as chain 2, DC, DC, 2DC in next. **DC in next 3 stiches, 2 DC in next stitch** Repeat ** join to 1st DC, chain 2
Round 4: DC in the same stich as your chain 2, DC, 2 DC in next stitch, **DC in next 2 stitches** repeat from ** join to 1st DC, chain 2
Rounds 5-7: beginning in the same stitch as your chain 2..DC around..join to first DC, chain 2
CHANGE COLOR..if you wish to have two colors
Rounds 8-9:  DC in each stitch around. Join to 1st DC, chain 2.
**DO NOT FASTEN OFF…BEGIN YOUR FIRST EARFLAP!!**

Earflap 1:
Row 1: In your next stitch, HDC 8, chain 2, turn
Row 2: HDC decrease, HDC 4, HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 3: HDC 6, chain 2, turn
Row 4: HDC decrease, HDC 2,HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 5:  2 HDC decreases, HDC 2, HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 6: HDC decrease, fasten off leaving a long tale

Earflap 2:
Make sure you count 9 stitches AWAY from the seam of your hat
Row 1: chain 2, then in next stitch HDC 8, chain 2, turn
Row 2: HDC decrease, HDC 4, HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 3: HDC 6, chain 2, turn
Row 4: HDC decrease, HDC 2,HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 5:  2 HDC decreases, HDC 2, HDC Decrease, chain 2, turn
Row 6: HDC decrease, fasten off leaving a long tale

Eyes(make 2):
*Magic Ring
*Chain 2
* 14 HDC, in ring
* Pull tight and close ring, connect to top of chain 2
*Chain 2
*2 HDC’s in each HDC around
*Connect to top of chain 2
*Leave long tail for sewing on

**For sleeping owl..use a tapestry needle and weave in and out and make the eye lashes and eye lids. **
**For awake owl..you can sew on buttons for the eyes J**

Nose:
*Chain 5
*SC in 2nd chain from the hook, HDC, DC, DC
*Leave long tail for sewing on

Ears:
For the ears I grabbed a few different strands of yarn and looped them two stitches at the top of the hat on each side (make sure to make then even) and then loop tied them and cut them down to the size I wanted J


*For the long tails on the earflaps, I normally cut a few different strands, fold them in half them slip them through a stitch on the bottom of the earflap and then from there either braid them or tie them off J*
